Sets
Sets are collections of equipment that provide a bonus when all the pieces in the set are equipped. They can be rerolled to increase their bonuses, but only after each piece has been upgraded at least once. Sets are available in the item upgrader, and are available from the vendor. Sets can be purchased through quests and dungeons.
Each set has a different bonus, and the upgraded version of a set can be used by multiple units at no cost. However, a player can only equip three pieces of a set at a time. After that there is a fourth piece that is available without triggering any penalty. The item upgrader may also offer players a new set of items but this is not guaranteed.

These items can be bought through the upgrader for items with some gold or gotten from karma vendors or monsters. Most upgrade components require a certain amount of equipment to accept them, and some have special cosmetic effects.
Some upgrade components can be reused, but the majority will be destroyed when removed from upgraded equipment. This is the case for all upgrades, with the exception of glyphs, which can be placed in tools for gathering. Some upgrade components can be recovered from salvaged equipment by using a high-end salvaging kit (such as Black Lion Salvage Kit, or Ascended Salvage Tool).
If the item is not upgraded, it will return to its initial condition. This means that the item could be rolled again to gain a higher version of the upgrade component.

In Genshin Impact, rerolling is an essential part of the game. New players receive a large amount of in-game money and can use this money to "pull" or roll for a random weapon or character. People often reroll until they find the most prestigious character they can locate, which can carry them through the beginning of the game. Some players have multiple accounts in order to increase their chances at having characters that are higher in rank.
If an item is rerolled, it will be replaced with an item of level 1 which will have distinct substats and extra bonuses. The rerolled item also has a lower weight. This means that it won't drop from battles until it is recovered.
The bonus system for upgrading items works by mixing flat boosts with percentage boosts to stats. They are applied in this order:
Rerolling is costly, but can help players reach their goals quicker. This is particularly true for events where players can earn in-game currency if they complete the event quickly. Certain players, however, prefer to save their in-game cash and avoid rolling.
