World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its base stats increase in value. This value is the total of all the leveled up advantages (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It is also used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to an lower level). The average level of an item is listed on the character sheet.

Utilizing the level of an item can help players evaluate the strength of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a measure of the item's condition and its quality. The item level can also be used to compare items when evaluating a vendor's inventory.

On your PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are many theories about how the item level is determined. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula that calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems found in sockets increase the value of the item. This can lead to an item's ilvl calculated, which is usually very close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.

However, this is not the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, since the size of the area the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding a level to its haste or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Item stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the best." The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modifications which are then enhanced by the player's level.

The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. An item that is white or grey, for example, will only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.

Another method to alter the stats of an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all sizes and shapes. The affixes are used to give items additional damage or special abilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to distinguish them by naming them.

All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items, which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other rerolling options.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can also choose which of the available stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However each item will have at least one stat in the range, unless they are an exclusive item, or a God Roll from a raid boss.

This is another thing that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to increase. As with the base equipment, it would have to be done per item and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats at once.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the likelihood of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is especially beneficial in the early game, because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increases with each item level and can be further increased by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be made or spawn with the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be enhanced by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to add another 40 luck, or to increase the luck of the item to 140.

Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any ability that causes damage by 5percent. These items can be bought at the store, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are costly and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item in the event that it fails.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing cannot be greater than 100%..

The success of an  item upgrades  is also influenced by the Luck of that item. All items have an average success rate of 25 percent and every item with Luck increases this chance by 5%.

It is important to note that  upgrade item s are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
